As promised, here are some photos of my
hunting trip over Father's Day includingthe 180lbs Russian Boar I
took on Sunday. I had a GREAT time driving my FJ Cruiser all over
the ranch which is located 4 miles North of Mount Hamilton
Observatory inthe San Francisco Bay Area mountains (South/East Bay).
It takes almost an hour or so to get to the backside of the ranch and you
go up and down (twice) over 2000 vertical feet. Even though some
would argue that the
ranch road isn't rough enough to be considered a "technical"
challenge (I've certainly negotiated worse while I was in the Army),
there are a number of spots
that making the wrong decision will damage your vehicle or kill you.
The vehicle performed as I would expect a vehicle built like the FJ
Cruiser. Several of the
descents and ascents were nearly more than 20 degrees in and out of
the deep canyons and ravines. Some of the angles were also sideways
making for some focus when driving. My FJ is a serious rig my
friend!! AND it is a joy to drive.
I bought my FJ Crusier last Friday -
been tracking it on the Toyota web site for
almost 9 months. Here are a few photos in between driving around on
the weekend.

East from Cedar Mesa across a valley
to a syncline called Comb Ridge. The FJ is setting at the edge of a
slickrock ledge 500-600 feet above the valley floor. I drove my FJ
here in April (8,9,10), the ride was great, even after 1,100 miles
in one day.

Nala's first off-road adventure, she came through with flying
colors. Nala has no
front claws, just because she doesn't have four wheel drive, doesn't
mean that we
cant go offroad and have some fun!

When I saw the FJ Cruiser in
Automobile magazine about a year ago I flipped over it! I never
owned an old FJ, but always wanted one. It took some time to bring
my wife around to the idea of getting one,(to her for me!) but our
other car started to have problems. Now she love's it as much as I
do! A smart move is to buy a LoJack so you can get it back if it's
stolen.
(A problem I have already read about.)

Found your site recently and thought I
would share.
Bought my new FJ on 4/5/06. Its been a real head turner.
Every time I park it somewhere, I have someone wanting
to check it out and ask questions. Now I can stop
driving the 77 FJ40 and put some time into restoring it.

putting me in the drivers seat of this beauty.

Devil's Slide in
Ocotillo Wells, CA taken 4/23/06
I took the FJ out to Ocotillo Wells, CA last weekend and had a
blast! Spent some time at Devil's Slide and just about effortlessly
conquered all the hills, trails, washes, gully's, gorges, draws,
rock & sand the entire time! Used to do the same in my 1972 FJ-40
too but not with as much ease and comfort! Some of my passengers
were asking me to turn the A/C down while doing all the trail
riding. Ha! Topped off the weekend by taking the San Felipe Wash
off-road trail system from Ocotillo Wells to Borrego Springs across
the desert in Full Spring Bloom before grabbing the pavement for San
Diego.
